In early October 2010 my friend, Larry Calof, and I headed down to the North Rim for a long weekend of photography. We were fortunate to get the last room available at the Kaibab Lodge which is just outside the park about 18 miles from the rim. The lodge in the park was full for that weekend several months before we went. The weather was iffy with clouds, wind and some rain most of the time. The aspens were pretty much at their peak. That coupled with the fact that the clouds opened up a bit almost every sunrise and sunset made for some gorgeous scenery and fantastic photo opportunities.
